Rainbow Rose held its 3rd General Assembly in Berlin (6th-8th of November), kindly hosted by QueerSozis (Schwusos) Berlin (LGBT group of German SPD). It gathered around 40 people from 21 organizations from all over Europe.
Some highlights of the weekend were an informal exchange with Jan Stöß (Chairman of SPD Berlin), an inspiring speech from our long-standing supporter Zita Gurmai (President of PES Women), a Q&A session with Daniele Viotti (Italian S&D MEP, Co-president of the LGBTI intergroup of the European Parliament), a workshop with Transgender Europe
(TGEU) and a frank discussion with Johannes Kahrs (German federal MP, spokesperson for the LGBTI rights).
The General Assembly discussed the future of the organization and its priorities. There was a commitment to increase the political activities with the European institutions on new initiatives and fully implement legislation improving LGBTI rights all around Europe. There was also strong support for reinforcing our member structures, especially in countries lacking political will and progressive LGBTI legislation.
The general assembly also elected a new board of 7 members for the next two years:
Aurélien Mazuy (HES, France) – re-elected as President
Bea Tilanus (PvdARozeNetwerk, The Netherlands)
Hanna Huumonen (Pinkkiruusu, Finland)
Joël le Deroff (PS, Belgium)
Jose Ángel Santoro (Grupo LGBT del PSOE, Spain)
Lars Vorberger (Schwusos, Germany)
Mia Sundelin (Hbts, Sweden)
“It was a pleasure to see so many member organizations and activists in Berlin. We are proud to promote the great record of our political family for LGBTI rights, and to keep fighting for inclusive and more equal society in Europe. The previous board did an amazing work to relaunch Rainbow Rose (special thanks to outgoing board members: Maria, Aleksander and Kristin), and it is time to write a new story with this new motivated board”, stated the President of Rainbow Rose, Aurélien Mazuy.
